Oprah’s Longtime Partner Stedman Says She Would ‘Absolutely’ Run for President

Oprah for President 2020.” The internet has been buzzing with that phrase after Oprah Winfrey’s impassioned speech at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards.

The media mogul made history as the first African American to be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award, which honors those who make outstanding contributions to entertainment. Many in attendance, including Winfrey, donned all black in honor of the “#MeToo” movement– standing in solidarity against sexual assault, harassment and inequality.

“A new day is on the horizon!” She exclaimed. “When that new day finally dawns, it will be because a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me too’ again.” Many have been saying the whole speech sounded pretty State of the Union-ish, already dubbing “A new day is on the horizon” as her campaign slogan.

Now it looks like that sentiment has changed, drastically. Winfrey’s longtime beau, Steadman Graham told the Los Angeles Times, “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.” King told the paper she thought the speech was incredible and she got goosebumps. King never stated whether or not her BFF would actually run. An ABC News article says Winfrey could float to the top of the candidate list in two years. It points out she is an actual self-made billionaire who is relatable and has a high favorability rating, according to a Quinnipiac poll last spring. When asked about a potential Oprah 2020 run, a spokesperson for the current Trump administration said quote, “We welcome all comers.”

Of course, this is all speculation. Winfrey herself has neither confirmed nor denied a 2020 run. But for now, it seems that the people have spoken.

Oprah Shares Footage of Her Backyard After Southern California Mudslides

While those closest to her continued to feed the buzz of a potential Oprah Winfrey presidential run on Tuesday, January 9, the 63-year-old media mogul was too busy dealing with the catastrophic damage that flash floods and mudslides have brought upon her 65-acre Santa Barbara estate.

In a series of video clips that Winfrey has shared with followers on social media, the devastation is apparent. Winfrey showed how high up towards her knees the depth of the mud surrounding her residence is by posting one snippet of her marching through her yard. A separate video, Winfrey shows flames bursting into the sky and conveys details about the plight of some of her neighbors, in its caption.

โ€œWhat a day! Praying for our community again in Santa Barbara. Woke up to this blazing gas fire. then swipe left to see how deep the mud is in my backyard. Helicopters rescuing my neighbors. Looking for missing persons. 13 lives lost. #Mudslides,โ€ she wrote.

In addition to the 13 who’ve been pronounced dead, at least 25 have been injured. More than 50 people have been rescued – at times via helicopter airlift. Meanwhile, authorities continue to search for potential missing victims, as the death toll is expected to rise.
