The saga (real or not) that is Nicki Minaj vs. Cardi B has captivated the masses.
Since Cardi’s ascendance into pop culture, many have stated that this spelled the end of Nicki’s run as hip-hop’s number one female attraction. Now whether the beef between the two is real or not, doesn’t absolve either party from feeling some type of way about the backlash that followed.
For Nicki, despite everything that happened in the (social) media sphere, she felt that Cardi could’ve done more to quell the rumors surrounding their so-called beef, especially following the “Motorsport” collaboration and subsequent video shoot. While speaking with Zane Lowe for Beats1 Radio Nicki stated:
When I first came in the game, if a female of [my] stature had done a feature with me on it, I would only be singing their praises and saying thank you. […] She’s just gone full steam ahead and congratulations to her. The first interview [Cardi] did after ‘MotorSport’ came out, it just really hurt me, because she looked so aggravated and angry, and the only thing she kept saying was, ‘I didn’t hear that, she changed her verse.
Nicki also stated that she was hurt by Quavo of the Migos who she claimed to have texted to back her on the issue to which he replied, “I would go on Twitter and back you up if you were my girl lol.”
