NASA has warned that an asteroid could hit the earth a day before the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The election is set to take place on November 3, 2020.
NASA said a small asteroid called 2018VP1 would be approaching Earth very closely only 24 hours before polls open in the United States for the election. The Center for Near Earth Objects Studies, a division of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, released a prediction of the asteroid’s trajectory, which is based on 21 observations across the span of 13 days. NASA scientists reportedly identified “three potential impacts,” but said the chance of the six and a half foot asteroid hitting the earth is a one in 240 chance or 0.41%. Last year, a NASA administrator named Jim Bridenstine said asteroids could be the biggest threat to Earth.
