Michigan became the first state in the Midwest to legalize marijuana for recreational use after Proposal 18-1 passed on Tuesday (November 6).
Medical marijuana was first approved by the state in 2008, making it the 13th state to legalize medical cannabis. Michigan is also one of two states, the other being Alaska, where households are allowed to grow 12 marijuana plants. It may take another year for the state issues licenses for businesses to sell marijuana.
