As food culture is shifting to more plant-based diets, McDonald’s is joining the trend and will introduce its offering the “McVegan” throughout hundreds of restaurants in Sweden and Finland. In a statement made to CNN about the burger, Henrik Nerell, McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Like our other burgers, the McVegan is tasty and has a good texture.”
The meatless burger is comprised of a soy patty on a bun, topped with an egg-less sauce, tomato, lettuce, pickles, onion, oil, mustard, and ketchup. The burger was made in partnership with Orkla, a Norwegian food company. A lower consumption of meat is happening globally, as reports of the environmental impact of livestock farming is being revealed to affect global warming. As well as, the animal and animal by-product diet is revealing itself to be less healthy in today’s society. During a test run of the McVegan, a 24-year-old student said the burger was very much similar to any beef burger you would order at the fast-food chain. “I would say it tasted like a normal, regular hamburger. I would seriously try the McVegan again because there wasn’t such a big difference between the burgers.”
No word on if and when the McVegan will make its way to the U.S. but with the demand for vegetarian and vegan food it is likely on its way. Would you try the McVegan?
