According to reports, Los Angeles has become the first county to top over one million COVID-19 cases. News of this comes after it was reported that LA was reportedly gearing up for the “worst conditions” of the pandemic.

This weekend, state officials noted Los Angeles became the first county in the United States to reach over 1 million confirmed cases of COVID-19. Along with that, state officials noted a variant of coronavirus made its way to LA. State department official Barbara Ferrer said:

“The presence of the UK variant in Los Angeles County is troubling, as our healthcare system is already severely strained with more than 7,500 people currently hospitalized. This more contagious variant makes it easier for infections to spread at worksites, at stores, and in our homes. We are in the midst of a public health emergency so please do everything you can to protect yourselves and those you love.”
