As the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates has been one of the most wealthy men in the world for the last three decades, at one point becoming the world’s youngest self-made billionaire at the age of 31.
Though the title of “richest man in the world,” is said to belong to Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, based on the most recent Forbes list, Gates is still said to be worth over $90 billion, leading many to wonder how he decides to spend all that money.
First and foremost it’s long been established that Gates is very charitable, evident by how the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is said to be the largest private charitable foundation in the world. Based on the numbers that would appear to be correct, as the foundation holds more than $50,000,000,000 in assets, of which $40 billion dollars have been donated to various education and health initiatives around the world. Additionally, back in 2010 Gates teamed up with Warren Buffett to create ‘The Giving Pledge,” which is a commitment for members to donate half of their wealth to charity.
Of course, Gates also lives a life of luxury with his fortune, while it’s said that one of his first loves has always been automobiles. He purchased a Porsche 911 for his first car after making it big with Microsoft, where it was said that during the early days of the 1970s, Gates amassed a number of speeding tickets for driving the car too fast through the New Mexico desert. Those indiscretions led him to be eventually arrested where he took his now infamous mugshot.
Gates owns a number of other luxury vehicles as well, including a Ferrari 348 and a Jaguar XJ6. For his most extravagant mode of transportation, however, Gates purchased a $21,000,000 private jet in 1997, while recently he’s charted a private yacht for his family at a fee of $5 million per week.
