The highly-publicized defamation trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife of nearly two years, Amber Heard, has practically seen more plot twists than most of the recent projects in their respective filmographies.

While Heard also had her fair share of support amongst fans, the public perception wasn’t nearly as kind to her, upon hearing the details from both viewpoints. The testimonies from each party involved in this wilding entertaining case have resulted in pooh jokes on social media, a litany of memes, dating rumors, and various online petitions.

The six-week battle began on April 11th at a courtroom in Fairfax County, Virginia. The stakes were high because Depp was attempting to sue Heard for defamation because of a write-up that she published in the Washington Post back in 2018, in support of her allegations that he asexually abused her. In response, Heard countersued Depp for allegedly orchestrating a smear campaign that has done serious damage to her career. On Wednesday the jurors reached a unanimous decision. They both won. The jury determined that Depp must be paid $10 million in compensatory damages and an additional $5 million in punitive damages. According to Virginia state laws, Depp will only be allowed to collect $10.35 million of his award.
