Coolio’s official cause of death was revealed on Thursday (April 6), and the famed entertainer died of a fentanyl overdose.Â
Jarel (Jarez) Posey, a spokesperson for Coolio’s family, confirmed the news to TMZ, and he also revealed that Coolio had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system. The effects from years of smoking, along with Coolio’s asthma, also led to complications in the rapper surviving the overdose.
Coolio died on September 28 after he was found unresponsive at a friend’s house in Los Angeles, and at the time, it was suspected that he died of a heart attack. No drugs or drug paraphernalia were found at the scene, which is why an overdose wasn’t immediately suspected.Â
