Chance The Rapper called out the popular game Fortnite for not paying rappers for their dances that are turned into popular “emotes” on the game.
There have been a number of trendy dances that the game has adapted including Bloc Boy JB’s “Shoot” dance as well as 2Milly’s “Milly Rock.” Chance believes that these artists should be receiving some sort of compensation for their dances while Fortnite is monetizing off of them without cutting a check.
Chance took to Twitter to air his grievances, writing:
Fortnite should put the actual rap songs behind the dances that make so much money as Emotes. Black creatives created and popularized these dances but never monetized them. Imagine the money people are spending on these Emotes being shared with the artists that made them.
Although Chance is going at Fortnite in this particular string of tweets, it could be argued that Chano is making a larger statement on artists being properly compensated for their work.
